Nawazuddin’s Adbhut Skips Theatres & OTT, Premieres Directly on Sony MAX TV

Updated:

Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s much-awaited film, ‘Adbhut’, is set to premiere directly on television, skipping theatres and OTT platforms.

This supernatural thriller will premiere on Sony MAX on 15th September 2024 at 8 PM.

The film was announced in 2021 with a planned release in 2022, but faced delays and remained silent after its teaser launch.

‘Adbhut’ is one of the year’s most shocking mystery drama films. The movie’s poster, recently revealed, features a terrifying image of Diana Penty’s cracked face and red eyes. It also features Shreya Dhanwanthary looking shocked, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui standing serious.

A ghost behind the main character drags a man by his hair, adding to the film’s suspense and excitement.

Directed and written by Sabbir Khan, ‘Adbhut’ is jointly produced by Sony Pictures Films India and Sabbir Khan Films. The movie features Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Diana Penty, and Rohan Mehra in lead roles.

It is an unusual move for Sony MAX Original Releases to release directly on television in an era in which OTT platforms dominate the entertainment market. The film’s unique release strategy may set a new trend in Indian film distribution.

Why did the makers bypass theatres and OTT for a direct-to-TV release? Does this new trend signal a shift in big-screen thriller consumption?
