Rajinikanth’s much-awaited sports drama Lal Salaam has finally made its digital debut today on Sun NXT. The film streams on June 6, 2025, coinciding with the festival of Bakrid.
The extended version includes previously lost footage that was recovered months after the theatrical release. Director Aishwarya Rajinikanth had earlier revealed that a hard drive containing crucial scenes went missing, forcing them to release an incomplete version in theaters.
The Extended Cut Makes All the Difference
Sun NXT announced the OTT release with excitement, stating “Just two days left for Moideen Bhai’s arrival! Lal Salaam – The Extended Version streaming from June 6 on Sun NXT“. The recovered footage is expected to make the film “totally different” from the theatrical version.
The film originally released in February 2024 but failed to make a mark at the box office, earning only ₹32.5 crore worldwide against a budget of ₹80-90 crore. Despite the commercial failure, the OTT release offers a second chance for audiences to experience the complete vision.
Star Cast and Technical Team
Lal Salaam features Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in lead roles, with Rajinikanth appearing in an extended cameo as Moideen Bhai. The supporting cast includes Senthil, Jeevitha, Thambi Ramaiah, and KS Ravikumar.
The film boasts music by legendary composer AR Rahman and cinematography by Vishnu Rangasamy. Set against a cricket backdrop, the story explores themes of friendship, communal harmony, and social justice through the lives of two friends from different religious backgrounds.
