Get ready for a new way to watch and learn about politics! On Sunday, Dravidar Kazhagam launched Periyar Vision, India’s first OTT platform dedicated to political content.

This platform is dedicated to promoting social justice and rationalism, inspired by Thanthai Periyar’s principles.

Periyar Vision OTT Platform Launch Event

The launch event took place in Chennai on July 21, 2024. In attendance were high-profile celebrities like Thoothukudi MP and DMK leader K. Kanimozhi, popular actor Sathyaraj, artist Trotsky Marudhu, Kali Poongundran, and DK president K. Veeramani in attendance.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin praised the initiative, calling it the world’s first OTT platform dedicated to an ideology. He emphasized that in today’s era of social media, such a platform is essential to spread Periyar’s principles to a wider audience.

Periyar Vision App Contents

This new OTT platform will feature a variety of content aimed at spreading Periyar’s ideology.

Viewers can expect shows that address issues related to religion, interviews with notable political figures, discussions on rationalism, as well as films, short films, and documentaries.

The platform’s tagline, “Everything for Everyone,” reflects its inclusive approach. It aims to educate and inspire viewers by showcasing content that aligns with Periyar’s vision of a just and rational society.

Periyar Vision App Subscription

Periyar Vision’s 1-month subscription costs ₹36 per month. Similarly, it’s ₹147 for 3 months and ₹588 for one year.

However, with the current launch offer, you’ll get double the benefits. This means for a 1-month subscription, you’ll get 2 months; for a 3-month subscription, you’ll get 6 months; and for a 1-year subscription, you’ll get 2 years of streaming access.

You can access Periyar Vision’s content through their web portal and via their app available on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Will it Work?

While the concept is unique, there are doubts about its success.

Critics argue that if the platform only focuses on promoting Periyar’s ideology, it might fail to keep viewers engaged.

Movies like “Sarpatta Parambarai,” “Jai Bhim,” and “Asuran” have successfully highlighted social issues and political ideologies in a more effective and entertaining way.

What do you think about the launch of Periyar Vision? Will it make a difference in promoting social justice and rationalism in India?
