HBO’s hit series “House of the Dragon” faces another leak as clips from the Season 2 finale appear online days before its official release.
The Episode 8, set to air on August 4, was partially leaked on TikTok on Tuesday night, just five days before its scheduled premiere.
A TikTok user posted 14 videos, covering 30 minutes of footage from the upcoming final episode. According to ComicBook, within three hours, these clips were viewed more than 100,000 times before the account was banned. However, the leaked videos had already spread to other social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit.
This isn’t the first time “House of the Dragon” has faced such an issue. The Season 1 finale also leaked online a few days before its scheduled premiere in October 2022. At that time, HBO identified the source as one of its distribution partners in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa.
Despite these leaks, the show’s popularity remains strong. The Season 2 premiere earlier this summer helped HBO Max have its biggest stream day ever.
HBO has not commented on this latest leak. The company had previously decided not to send screeners of the Season 2 finale to journalists to prevent such incidents.
“House of the Dragon” is set 200 years before “Game of Thrones” and is based on George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood“. The current season continues the storyline of the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.
Will this leak affect Season 2 finale viewership? Or will fans, like in the past, still watch this official release?
