Govinda, once the undisputed king of 90s Bollywood entertainers, has been absent from the big screen for years. While fans miss his iconic performances in hits like ‘Raja Babu’ and ‘Hero No. 1’, his wife, Sunita Ahuja, has shed light on his career decline.
In a candid interview, she blamed his inner circle and his refusal to adapt to changing times. According to a chat with The Powerful Humans, Sunita did not hold back her thoughts.
A Circle of Fake Praise
Sunita directly points a finger at the people surrounding Govinda, calling them the “wrong circle” of followers.
She claims that this group, which includes a writer, a secretary, a musician, and a lawyer friend, is “useless” because they only offer blind praise. “They only say ‘wah, wah!’ If he makes music, they say ‘wah, wah… kamaal kar diya.’
They should tell him the truth,” she stated. Sunita revealed that her honesty often causes fights with Govinda, as he gets irritated when she speaks the truth instead of flattering him.
Stuck in the Past
Beyond the influence of his team, Sunita believes Govinda is holding himself back by clinging to the formula that made him a superstar in the 1990s.
She insists he needs to move on from that era and embrace the modern entertainment landscape, which is now dominated by OTT platforms and new storytelling methods.
She has urged him to plan for the future and consider what kind of films he should do now, rather than living in his past stardom. His last major film appearance was in the 2019 box office failure ‘Rangeela Raja’.
While other veteran actors find new lives on streaming platforms, Govinda’s absence is strongly felt. Sunita’s comments suggest that a change in mindset and a more honest support system are crucial for his comeback.
