Naslen and Lukman Avaran’s sports drama Alappuzha Gymkhana has officially made its digital debut on SonyLIV. The film started streaming on June 5, 2025, bringing the coming-of-age boxing story to homes across India.
According to Times of India, the film is now available in five languages: Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. This multi-language release makes the sports drama accessible to a much wider audience beyond Kerala.
From Theaters to Streaming Success
Alappuzha Gymkhana first hit theaters on April 10, 2025, and enjoyed a successful theatrical run.
The film, made on a tight budget, reportedly collected nearly Rs 50 crores during its cinema release, making it one of the biggest hits in Malayalam cinema this year.

ETimes gave the film a strong rating of 3.5 stars out of 5, praising it as “a raw, ringside glimpse into youth, grit, and growing up“. Critics highlighted the authentic performances and the film’s focus on character development over typical sports drama clichés.
The Story Behind the Gloves
Set in the coastal town of Alappuzha, the film follows five school friends facing uncertain futures after their 12th-grade exams. When college admissions look bleak, they discover boxing as a potential path through sports quota entries. What begins as a practical solution transforms into a journey of self-discovery and friendship.
Director Khalid Rahman, known for Thallumaala, brings his signature storytelling style to this sports drama. The film features Naslen in the lead role, supported by Ganapathi S. Poduval, Sandeep Pradeep, Anagha Ravi, and others.
